Kitchen Wisdom.

Hog Wild's Twirling Spaghetti Fork.

When I was growing up I was surrounded by amazing Italian food and amazing Italian people. Along with odd family quirks, a die-hard love for the San Francisco Giants and a hip-y figure I was blessed with tons of  kitchen wisdom. These are five of my favorites:

1. Be adventurous. You're never going to  figure out your signature dish without taking a risk! Go on little one, just do it!

2. Read the recipe before you start... twice. You don't want to end up burning your tripple chocolate chip cookies that you have labored over for three hours just because you didn't double check the oven temperature.

3. Never buy a tool that only does one job. My kitchen in Berkeley was so tiny and I couldn't afford the space to have a million tools lying around (except my mocha pot, one-job-per-tool coffee things are always allowed), so this became my rule since I have a weakness for gadgets.

4. Make your own tomato sauce (at least some of the time). This is the first thing I remember making at my aunts house. I asked her to teach me how to make "all of the sauces" (red, blush, white and everything in between).  My red sauce with ox tail is now my signature dish over polenta with sausage.

5. Check the expiration dates. Milk should not be chunky. Enough Said.

P.s. I want to start putting my favorite recipes up on this thing. We will see if I actually do it. Maybe I should try blogging consistently first...

Where to Eat on Valentines Day in Sonoma County

There are so many amazing things to do for valentines day around Sonoma County. I am going to give you some amazing ideas for somewhere to go.

For Mr. And Miss. Fancy Pants:

La Gare

This is for those of you who want to go all out and stay in Santa Rosa. It's expensive, awesome and will make a great impression. Also, dress up. It's F-A-N-C-Y.

For the Man Who is Going to Propose:

Madrona Manor

For Foodies that Love Aesthetics:

El Dorado Kitchen

This place is amazing. The design, food and location are beautiful. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, you can wear your cool skinny gray suit and your vintage fedora and totally fit in. Yes, ladies break out that beautiful 1950's mink from Skirt Chaser, black skinny jeans and your Jimmy Choo's. You're going to love it here.

One of the First Few Dates:

Boat House

Found photo on Yelp, they don't have a website.

Here you're going to eat something deep fried. I recommend the Fish & Chips. This place always hits the spot for me after spending the afternoon tide pooling and watching the sun set. Wear jeans and a sweatshirt.

No reservations needed.

1445 California 1
Bodega Bay, Ca

For the Couple Who are Laid back and Really Fun

Hana Japanese

Found photo on Restaurant Website.

"There is fish here" - My sister who is an engineer. That's a huge compliment. Zagat loves them too, they are one of the highest rated Sushi places in Sonoma County. This place is comfortable and there is no pressure to be fancy. You might want to learn hose to use chop sticks before eating here though...

Yes, they take reservations.

101 Golf Course Drive
Rohnert Park, Ca
707-586-0270

(They are in the building across the parking lot from Mary's Pizza)

For the Vegetarian who is with the Meat Eater:

Scopa

The Restaurant website is lacking photos so I grabbed this from the Travel and Leisure Website.
This beauty was taken by Steve Kepple.
This place is amazing. The food is great, the atmosphere is hip and the wait staff is just lovely. The wine list is crazy awesome. This place is also very exclusive. You will need to make reservations like now... well finish reading then make reservations.

For dessert you will have to walk across the street to Moustache Baked Goods and grab an espresso (please, pronounce it properly) and a financier bar.

109 Plaza St.
Healdsburg, Ca

For the Carnivorous Lovers:

Diavola Pizzaria & Salumeria

This is from my Instagram (@bethanyfautley).
The company I work for had our Christmas party here- SCORE!

This is personally my favorite restaurant in Sonoma County. I haven't been everywhere, but this place always feels like home to me. It's comfortable and classic yet you have drying meat hanging from hooks and a pigs head to greet you when you walk in. It's a little weird and a lot amazing. All the meats are made in house. I HIGHLY recommend the blood sausage. It's sweet and salty and perfect.

The Restaurant website is here.

They do not take reservations, be prepared to wait around. There are quite a few amazing wineries you can hang out in within 3 store fronts while you wait though. Including my favorite, Mercury Vineyards.

21021 Geyserville Ave
Geyserville, Ca

For the Singles Night Out!

Jackson's Bar & Oven

Found this on yelp.com

This place is my go-to for a girls night or a casual dinner with friends. It would be so much fun to have a group together to just have a great time on a night where singles usually don't have much to do. I know that I love getting together with my friends and I love Jackson's so it would be a great fit! I highly recommend the fish tacos with the Lagunitas Pils.

The Restaurant website is here.

Yes, they take reservations.
